Drugs in Punjab | Women Addicts Point Fingers at Police Officials for Throwing them into Drugs Bog

Chandigarh: Revealing role of Punjab police personnel in spreading the drugs epidemic in Punjab, two women addicts, who underwent treatment at a de-addiction centre in Punjab, accused police officials for throwing them into drugs bog. Video reports by media outlets have shown two young women (identity was withheld in such reports) accusing police officials for making them drug addicts.

One woman named DSP Daljit Singh Dhillon. She said that the DSP was her friend and he prompted her to try ‘heroin’ and used to supply her drugs for 1 year.

Other woman aged 26 said she taking drugs for last 2 years. She accused constable Balwinder Singh and SHO Balbir Singh for making her a drug addict.

The ‘victims’ were being treated at the newly set up Drug De-addiction Centre for Women at Kapurthala.

Duo made these disclosures during the visit of Punjab health minister Brahm Mohindra and MLA Rana Gurjit Singh. On being questioned by media, both Brahm Mohindra and Rana Gurjit Singh said that they could act in this matter only after written complaint in this regard.

Media reports show that neither Brahm Mohindra nor Rana Gurjit Singh showed any interest in meeting the victims themselves and listen to their complaint. Such a cold response from health minister and senior Congress party MLA poses serious questions over Capt. Amarinder Singh led government’s intentions on drugs issue.

Notably, before state assembly elections last year, Capt. Amarinder Singh had taken oath to eradicate the drugs mafia in Punjab but his government’s indifferent attitude on drugs issue is making people to belief that his oath was nothing but a deceitful lie.
