Videos Roseville :-Peaceful Sikh Protesters & Stop Sarbjit Dhunda Perform

Dozens of police officers and other law enforcement were called to a Sikh Temple in Roseville tonight after a disagreement over a speaker became violent.

Police said they received a call at around 8:30 that a fight had broken out during a speaking event at the temple. At least 20 officers arrived to break up the fighting. But members of the local temple said the Sikhs from other areas are part of a more conservative group of believers who came to argue and disrupt the speaker, a professor visiting from India.

It is unknown what caused the fight. No injuries were reported.

“So they tried to fight with us and we called the police and thank God the Roseville Police came here to control the situation and everything,” said Balraj Randhawa, with the local American Sikh Federation of Northern California temple.

No one appeared to have been seriously injured and no arrests were made.

The Sikh faith originated in India about 500 years ago and is known for believing in equality and peace.

Neighbors said the temple is a good neighbor, sometime sharing food with needy people in the area.

Main Street was closed for a time as dozens of temple members clashed with other members of the faith from as far away as the Bay Area.

Police raced to the temple of the American Sikh Foundation of Northern California, after they were called by temple members.

The temple had invited a professor and Sikh teacher from India to speak, and more conservative members of the faith who were not from the temple showed up to protest – some able to get inside -and things began to get violent.

“Some of us who were already in, they were dragged, they were pushed. There were kids here who were beaten up inside the congregation. This is not something you would expect from someone who’s attending a congregation,” said Dr. Gurtej Singh, who said he and others had come to the Roseville temple because they were opposed to the speaker.
