Tihar Jail Ordered To Produce Jagtar Singh Hawara In Ludhiana Court

Today, a Ludhiana court finally sent orders to Delhi’s Tihar Jail, to produce Jagtar Singh Hawara in court on 12 October 2015, in relation to 3 cases under the Arms & Explosives Act, registered against him by Kotwali police in 1995.

Advocate Jaspal Singh Manjhpur reports that heated exchanges took place in the court, as the judge was initially reluctant to issue the production warrant. These charges had lay buried under the numerous false cases against H@wara and only came to the knowledge of our legal team and Jagtar Singh himself, when FIR records in another case were being obtained in March 2015. The authorities use these ‘tricks of the trade’ to hinder any possibility of parole, bail or release. Another recent example, when discussions took place of a possible bail release for Professor Devinderpal Singh Bhullar, two old cases in Gaziabad and Batala were produced as a reason to prevent the possibility of any kind of release.

In court, Ludhiana police cited they did not have appropriate manpower to cover the security required for a court appearance by Jagtar Singh. But, Bhai H@wara’s legal team argued that the court should not entertain Panjab police plans to further delay the commencement of these cases and that providing adequate security falls under the remit of the Tihar Jail authorities
