The Punjabi singer Ranjit Bawa is under fire after videos surfaced of him performing at the Nakodar Mela of Baba Lal Badshah.
Sikhs on social networks have lashed out at Bawa for this act.
In an exclusive interview Surinder Singh of talking Punjab, Ranjit Bawa spoke out against the controversy surrounding him singing at Mastaan Lal Badshah Dera at Nakodar.
In the interview, Bawa stated he was a Jatt and then said he was a Sikh and so some confusion was created right at the beginning. Furthermore, he stated the song was sung at the Dera 2 years ago but also said he sung ‘Munda Sardaraan Da’ there. Now, ‘Munda Sardaraan Da’ was released of June 2014 and so his 2nd claim doesn’t add up also.
He kept reiterating he does Sikhi parchar at Deras so people can learn about Sikhi. However, the logical thing is to not sing at such places because otherwise this can have a negative impact on Sikhi rather than positive.
Many on social media criticized Bawa on the interview on social media while others were in support of his response. Many on social networks are stating Bawa is trying to cover up the issue by saying he’s promoting Sikhism.
The response of Bawa was a bit unsatisfactory because he said he will go to such places in the future. Any singer has the right to sing where ever they wish but when a singer sings songs related to Sardari and Sikhi than he must not do anti-Sikh activities.
The controversy has grown bigger after Punjabi singer Preet Harpal called him out on Facebook alleging he copied his song and replaces his father’s name in the song.
The issue created a stir and in response to the allegation Bawa chose not answer by going off topic in Surinder Singh’s interview. He said he will go to Deras and do Sikhi parchar but he won’t ever bow his head to anyone else than Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji.
