FIROZEPUR, Punjab—October 29, 2016 Interim jathedar Bhai Dhian Singh Mand has been taken into police custody under preventive measures.
Bhai Mand was arrested by the Firozepur police this morning and taken to the police station for further investigations.
Homes of several Sikh leaders were also raided yesterday. These includes Sikh activists from the Shiromani Akali Dal Amritsar and United Akali Dal. Namely, houses of S. Paramjit Singh Jejani and Gursharan Singh Sohal were raided yesterday.

At the behest of Akal Takht Jathedar Jagtar Singh Hawara, the Sarbat Khalsa appointed Takht Jathedars and sacked ‘Punj Piares’ joined hands today to lead the event ‘Sarbat Khalsa-2016’ jointly. Sarbat Khalsa is scheduled to be held at Talwandi Sabo on November 10. The standby between ‘Punj Piares’ and ‘Takht Jathedars’ broke up today in a meeting held at Sri Amritsar Sahib in the wee hours at the house of Bhai Major Singh (one of the ‘Punj Piares’).
As per a press joint press note shared by ‘Punj Piares’ and Takht Jathedars, the ‘Sarbat Khalsa-2016’ event will be held under the patronage of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji. The ‘Punj Piares’ (Bhai Satnam Singh Khande Wala, Bhai Mangal Singh, Bhai Tarlok Singh, Bhai Satnam Singh Jhajjian and Bhai Major Singh) and ‘Takht Jathedars’ (Bhai Dhian Singh Mand, Bhai Amrik Singh Ajnala and Baba Baljit Singh Daduwal) will jointly lead the proceedings of event ‘Sarbat Khalsa-2016’.
Sikh24 has learnt that the ‘Punj Piares’ and ‘Takht Jathedars’ will constitute an executive committee by calling a meeting of worldwide religious, political and social outfits.
Warmly welcoming the move, Chief Organizing Secretary of Youth Akali Dal Amritsar Bhai Papalpreet Singh has said that the unity of ‘Punj Piares’ and ‘Takht Jathedars’ will strength up the Sikh congregation numerous times. He added that the unity was much in needed in current circumstances as the Sikhism was getting attacked from all sides.
