With no let-up in protests over sacrilege of Dhan Dhan Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji Maharaj in Punjab, 10 companies of the Border Security Force (BSF) have been deployed in four districts of Punjab.
Tension has been prevailing in the state since incidents of Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji Maharaj sacrilege have come to light sparking protests across the state.
Meanwhile, in a fresh incident, Ang of Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji Maharaj were found torn at Gurusar village in Bathinda district on Tuesday morning leading to tension in the area. As the incident came to light, villagers gathered to protest against the incident.
JALANDHAR: Taking serious note of the deteriorating law & order situation in Punjab, where traffic blockages are being done by the Sikh protesters in protest against sacrilege of the “Bir” of Guru Granth Sahib, Centre today deployed para-military forces in Ludhiana, Jalandhar and Amritsar to maintain law & order.
Sources said that when Union Minister Rajnath Singh had a talk with the state BJP Chief Kamal Sharma on Monday, the latter informed him about the deteriorated law & order situation in the state and apprised him how the state government had made the Punjab Police ‘defunct’ to control the situation.
Rajnath Singh had a talk with Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal too and after that the decision regarding deployment of para-military forces was taken.
It is pertinent to mention here that the respective district Police heads were not taken into confidence before such deployment.
Some of the senior police officials of Ludhiana & Jalandhar expressed their unawareness when asked about the deployment of para-military forces in their districts.
“We got information regarding possible deployment of BSF troops late last night, but nothing was final”, One of the senior police officer on condition of anonymity told punjabtribune.com.
But, yes extra forces from PAP and Reserve Battalion was deployed in Jalandhar today, police sources added.
