Taking suo motu notice of media reports about weapons training inside the Sirsa-based Dera Sacha Sauda, whose head Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh is facing murder and rape charges, the Punjab and Haryana high court on Thursday issued notice to the Haryana government and the dera management seeking their replies.
Notices were also issued to the Punjab government and the Chandigarh administration due to the presence of “similar type of deras or ashrams in their respective territories”. The case would now come up for further hearing on January 14.
Division bench headed by Justice TPS Maan of the HC issued notices on basis of a reference made by another division bench regarding the alleged weapon training inside Sacha Sauda and treating it as a matter of public interest.
The bench headed by Justice M Jeyapaul, which is hearing contempt of court case against defiant preacher Rampal, had taken serious view of an Army advisory, issued in December 2010, regarding weapon training in the Sirsa dera.
Considering it a serious issue, the bench observed that a search of the dera to unearth illegal weapons and monitoring its activities is must to avoid future bloody confrontation.
“Casualty will be more in dimension compared to the one we faced while executing warrant of arrest against contemnor Rampal,” HC observed.
