Dal Khalsa and Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) have expressed deep grief over the demise of Bapu Tarlok Singh.
Bapu Tarlok Singh was a tough personality who had bravely faced state oppression after his son, Shaheed Bhai Satwant Singh (along with Shaheed Beant Singh) assassinated the then Indian prime minister Indira Gandhi on October 31, 1984. Indira Gnadhi was responsible for ordering army attack on Darbar Sahib (Amritsar) and dozens other Sikh Gurdwaras in Punjab and adjoining states in June 1984.
Shaheed Beant Singh was martyred by Indira Gandhi’s security on October 31, 1984; but Bhai Satwant Singh had survived the incident. He was sentenced to death and was martyred on January 6, 1989 along with Shaheed Kehar Singh.

Dal Khalsa mourns demise of Bapu Tarlok Singh, eulogizes entire family’s sacrifices for Sikh freedom struggle
Amritsar- While expressing their deep sorrow and grief over the death of Bapu Tarlok Singh, father of great martyr Bhai Satwant Singh, Dal Khalsa head H S Dhami and other members prayed for the eternal peace to the departed soul.
Pertinently, Bhai Satwant SIngh was hanged to death on 6 Jan 1989 along with Bhai Kehar Singh in connection with the assassination of late Indian PM Indira Gandhi.
Terming it one of the most revered panthic parivar, the leaders paid rich tributes to the services and contribution of the family towards the Sikh cause and said that this family has paid enormous sacrifices for the freedom struggle and a son of the family has offered his precious life to uphold the sanctity of Sikh faith and avenge the sacrilege of Darbar Sahib.
Bapu Tarlok Singh passed away at Escort hospital in Amritsar today morning around 8 am where he was admitted last night due to some serious health problem. His cremation will be held after family members, who resides in New Zealand would reach Punjab.
