The Amritsar police have booked and arrested a youth for posting a derogatory comment on Facebook against Punjab Deputy Chief Minister and SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal.
The accused, identified as Bikram Singh, a resident of village Mirakot in the district was Wednesday evening produced before a court here. He was remanded to one day in police custody.
Police sources claimed that Bikram Singh is associated with a radical Sikh group and had been taking part in protests against incidents of sacrilege of Guru Granth Sahib in the state.
The action comes after the open announcement of the government and the state police that they would be taking strict action against people who were misusing the social media to spread hatred amongst different communities and also using the same to post derogatory messages against certain personalities.
The Cyber Cell of the Punjab Police were assigned the job to track such posts and identify the miscreants so that they could be booked and dealt with as per law.
“The arrest of Bikram Singh is result of the initiative launched by the Cyber Cell in this respect,” the official said.
