Ludhiana: Bandi Singhs Rihai Sangharsh Committee has called up a convention on 6 July at village Hassanpur in support of fasting Sikh activist Bapu Surat Singh Khalsa. Bapu Surat Singh is on indefinite hunger strike since January 16.support
On 16 January 2015, Surat Singh Khalsa began a hunger strike which is still ongoing. He has refused food and water for more than 3 months to seek the release of Sikh political prisoners who have completed their court sentences. Where he is seeking release of Sikh political prisoners, he has also called for unconditional release of prisoners of all religions who have completed their terms.
Sangharsh Committee members said that the representatives of various Sikh and human rights organisations will participate in the Convention.
Gurdeep Singh Bathinda, co-ordinator of the Sangharsh Committee, said that the convention is called upon to deliberate the future strategy for the struggle initiated by Bapu Surat Singh Khalsa.
He said that there has been some progress in the cases of some Sikh political prisoners, since their last meeting with the Punjab government and Prof. Devender Pal Singh Bhullar and Gurdeep Singh Khera have been transferred to Amritsar jail, but the core issue of the struggle i.e. permanent release of the concerned Sikh political prisoners still stands unresolved.
